Chapter History
When one thinks about the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Tulsa, many things come to mind. The first greek fraternity on campus, the Gamma Upsilon chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha was charted on June 6, 1936. The Pikes also boast the largest house on campus, having used to have been an athletic dorm on campus. More recently, this chapter has experienced a decade of success both on the national level and the local level here at the University.

On campus, this chapter has excelled over the years in scholarship, athletics, and community service. Scholarship being a pillar to our success, we have all come to realize that a necessity for individual success in life relies heavily on our academic performance. Solid grades and a strong knowledge in our field of study really set us a step ahead in the world of landing that job interview, and ultimately landing a great job. Over the last ten years, Pi Kappa Alpha has consistently performed at a higher level than the average all undergrad GPA here at TU. Most recently, in the Spring of 2006, Pi Kappa Alpha stood tall above the rest of campus. This chapter achieved a 3.236 GPA, placing first on campus among fraternities. For comparison, the all undergrad GPA stood at 3.12.

In addition to scholarship, athletics has proven successful over the years providing an escape from the classroom. This chapter has boasted the individual intramural champion six of the last seven years and has won the team championship four of the last five years. From flag football to softball to basketball, Pi Kappa Alpha does it all and does it well. Community Service is another aspect that is a pillar to the success of this chapter. Only one fraternity on campus has won the Medicine Wheel for community service hours in an academic year, Pi Kappa Alpha is that one and has won the award on two occasions in the last three years. A variety of community service projects are hosted by and many other projects participated in by this chapter. By the end of one’s time here, one will become a well-rounded individual. A solid foundation academically, supported by activities within athletics and community service, and you are for sure to come out a better man than entered four years prior.

On the national stage, this chapter has won five Smythe awards in the last seven years. The Smythe award goes to the top 5% of Pike chapters worldwide. This chapter has proven its worth both on campus and on an international stage with Pi Kappa Alpha Memorial Headquarters. In addition to the Smythe, countless chapter excellence awards have been won, along with scholarship plates, athletic plates, community service plates, and continuing education plates. These last ten years have been a renaissance of sorts for this chapter, and there is no reason to believe this chapter will not continue its growth and success for the next ten years.
